Loch Katrine and surrounding areas are steeped in history and is recognised as the favoured and much loved setting of some of Sir Walter Scott’s most famous poetic works, as well as boasting links to Scottish legend Rob Roy MacGregor. But did you know it was closely linked to Queen Victoria too?
Cycle Hire
The loch side cycle route is another stunning way to experience Loch Katrine and its surrounding beauty is one of the best ways to experience the Trossachs. Bikes are welcome on board the ships but we recommend cyclists book their bike on board (there is no surcharge for child bikes or bikes hired from Katrine Wheelz) as soon as possible as places fill up fast.
Walking
If you are a rambler and are looking for a new challenge the loch side cycle route is another stunning way to experience Loch Katrine and its surrounding beauty. There’s a host woodland paths for you to explore in and around the Loch including primrose hill and Ben A’an, you never know you might even get a glimpse of a Golden Eagle.

Area
Glengyle sits beautifully at the northern end of Loch Katrine. Birthplace of Scottish legend Rob Roy MacGregor, Glengyle is a hotspot for heritage hunters embarking on the infamous patron’s trail.
Stronachlachar, Gaelic for “the nose or point of the stonemason”, has been part of Loch Katrine’s rich history for over a century. Nestled at the far end of the loch, this small hamlet is home to a series of mighty historical connections.

Trossachs Pier Accessibility
Trossachs Pier and the car park is accessible for visitors with mobility problems and is wheelchair friendly.
If you have a blue badge you are able to park directly outside the Booking Office (4 spaces) and Cycle Hire areas (3 spaces). There is then a short walk to either the booking office, shop or tearoom access areas. Facilities on-site can be used with ease, and a wheelchair or a small mobility scooter can be used in the gift shop and in the tearoom.
