In 2025, Loch Katrine is celebrating a proud milestone – the 125th anniversary of Steamship Sir Walter Scott. Since her maiden voyage in 1900, this historic steamship has symbolised Scotland’s maritime heritage, literary legacy, and natural beauty. On this page, we will share some pictures of this fantastic year, which has already seen the Steamer awarded Flagship of the Year 2025 by National Historic Ships.

Steamboat Festival – 6 to 8 June 2025

The centrepiece of this anniversary year is the Loch Katrine Steamboat Festival, which will run from Friday, June 6th, to Sunday, June 8th, 2025, at Trossachs Pier. This family-friendly event will bring together past and present with heritage cruises, costumed storytelling, and live entertainment.

Highlights include:

  • Special Heritage Cruises aboard the Steamship Sir Walter Scott, featuring tales from her first captain, MacKinnon, who recounts the maiden sailing of 1900

  • A Flotilla of Classic Steamboats and Launches gracing the loch, showcasing traditional craftsmanship

  • Pirate Treasure Cruises aboard the Rob Roy Smuggler – packed with games, treasure hunts, and fun for younger visitors on 7 and 8 June

  • Face Painting, Funfair-Style Games, and Live Music throughout the weekend

  • Food and Drink Tastings, with stalls celebrating Scottish produce

  • Model Ship Displays and a live broadcast from Central FM on Saturday

Beyond the festival, the 125th anniversary year will include special sailings throughout the season, offering more chances to experience the loch aboard this remarkable vessel. Interpretive displays and new digital content will help visitors connect with the ship’s story, from her construction and wartime service to her modern restoration.
